Vital Statistics

The fee for a certified copy of a birth or death certificate is $20.00 for the first copy and $13.00 for each additional copy of the same record when ordered at the same time.

The Vital Statistics Office maintains official birth and death records. Offices in Las Animas and Huerfano Counties have records available from the year 1910 onward. These certified certificates are legal documents that may be used for purposes such as obtaining passports, traveling, school enrollment, and driver’s license applications.

Birth certificates may be issued for individuals born anywhere within the State of Colorado.

For death records dated between 1910 and 1975, please contact the county where the death occurred or the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment's Vital Statistics Section in Denver. Death certificates for deaths occurring from 1976 to the present can be issued by our county offices for any death that occurred within Colorado. Please allow a 72-hour processing period for the record to be added to the state system, enabling us to issue the certificate electronically.
